The Kashmir Tulip Festival happens in the valleys of the Himalayas. It takes place in March/ April when the winter ends and spring begins. The festival is all about the beauty of nature, with millions of colorful tulips blooming in Srinagar, making the place look magical.
The Tulip Festival is going to happen from March 19, 2024. The festival is held in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, which is the biggest tulip garden in Asia. The park overlooks the peaceful Dal Lake and covers a large area.
During the festival, the garden becomes alive with different colors of tulips. There are so many types like red, pink, yellow, and white tulips. The tulips make a beautiful sight along with the snowy peaks in the background.

Formerly known as Siraj Bagh, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden was initiate in 2007 by the floriculture department with the goal of boosting Kashmir tourism. With its stunning array of tulips, the garden has become a hotspot for tourists. The garden features rows of tulips, each displaying a different variety, along with 70 other varieties of flowers, including daffodils and hyacinths. The tulip bulbs, sourced from Amsterdam, add an international touch to this local gem, with around 45 varieties of flowers enhancing the visual spectacle. The garden’s seven terraces, adorned with walkways and fountains, create a serene environment perfect for leisurely strolls and memorable moments.
About Tulip Garden
Spread across about 30 hectors the garden is the largest Tulip garden in Asia. Blooming with more than 1.5 million tulips of about 48 varieties. The Tulip garden in Srinagar also hosts many other species of flowers like ranunculus, hyacinths and daffodils and a very rare tree called Tulip Tree which also blooms at the same time.
Tulips are considered most delicate and sensitive flowers and can grow in a perticular climatic conditions. The climate of Kashmir valley in the end of March is perfect for these flowers to bloom and they are among the first blooming flowers in the Valley.
It was inaugurated by then Chief Minister of the Jammu and Kashmir state Ghulam Nabi Azad in 2007 the tulip garden was built to promote tourism and floriculture in Kashmir valley.
This seven terraced garden will be having a water channel and more green areas to let the visitors relish their best memories in garden.
The garden has many sections and each section is designed by gardeners to make it unique. Every section hosts different varieties of Tulips like strong gold, margaritas, candela, kung fu, early harvest, ile de france, etc.
Asia’s largest tulip garden has been equipped with many other modern day facilities like Free WiFi, Fountains, Washrooms, Open-air Cafeteria, Decorated stalls and kiosks.
The Best Time To Visit Kashmir
If you wish to visit the Tulip Festival in Kashmir in 2023, you must know the event dates. The spring season commences in Kashmir usually at the end of March. This is why the tulip festival takes place in April. In 2023, the festival will be held from April 1 to April 20, for a stretch of 20 days. You can sign up for a tour to explore the garden better.
The best time to visit the Tulip Garden in Srinagar is during the month of April preferably in first week. This is when the tulips are in full bloom and the annual Tulip Festival is held. The tulips do not survive for more than 20 days.
Opening Date Of Tulip Garden 2024
As per latest information from Srinagar Municipal Corporation & Department of Floriculture which are incharge and responsible of the Tulip festival happening in Indira Gandhi Memorial Kashmir Tulip Garden It is expected to commence from 19th of March 2024. But it can vary as per the weather changes. As of this Year some more varieties of Tulips have been added and also more land has been added to accommodate 15 Lakh tulip flowers for the Year 2024.
Visiting Timings
Tulip garden is opened in ending March and closed in ending April and the timing is from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm every day. Sometimes it goes up and down due to rush and footfall.
How To Reach Srinagar
To reach Srinagar, you can easily access the city by air, as it’s well connected to major airports across the country. Srinagar’s Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport receives flights from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and more. Once you land at the airport, you can hire a taxi to reach the city center, which is approximately a 30-minute drive away.
