Daily hire suits trips where you use the car on several days or make several stops. Point-to-point transfers suit a stay in one place with only an arrival and a departure. Neither is always cheaper. Price both for the same trip, add every required leg and duty, and keep the unpriced ones visible before deciding.

This article compares pricing models. Our current per-day fares are on the Kashmir taxi rates page, one-way fares are on the one-way and return taxi page, and the booking process is in the complete guide to booking a taxi in Kashmir.

What do the options mean?

Quick answer

Daily hire keeps one vehicle and driver for your trip days. A transfer is a single journey from A to B. Operators define these differently, so confirm each term in writing.

  • Daily hire: a vehicle with a driver for a tour day. With us the rate is flat per day, covering transfer, sightseeing and halt days, and includes fuel, toll and parking. We do not apply an hourly cap.
  • Point-to-point transfer: one journey, such as an airport drop. A drop fare buys the journey, not waiting, detours or the return.
  • Return day trip: out and back, with waiting built into the quote.
  • Halt day: a day the vehicle stays with you while you remain in one place. With us it is billed at the same flat rate, with no separate night-halt charge, and the driver’s night halt is complimentary.
  • Departure day: if your last day is only an airport or station drop, we charge a flat transfer charge instead of a full tour day. For a sedan the indicative charge is Rs 1,200 for a drop up to 12 noon or in the late evening. A drop that takes up the day in between is charged as a full day (sedan from Rs 2,500, Innova from Rs 3,000). For larger vehicles the transfer charge is indicatively Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000, depending on the vehicle. Ask for the exact charge for your vehicle and the pickup-time cut-offs in your quote.

Selecting daily hire does not automatically include destination-specific arrangements. For example, in Pahalgam the inner valleys are reached by local cabs paid separately.

Which model fits which kind of trip?

Quick answer

It depends on the movement pattern. Here are three common ones, each with a conditional recommendation.

Conditional recommendations by movement pattern
Pattern Often fits Why Check
One hotel, two transfers Transfers You pay for two journeys, not unused days Any sightseeing you add is separately priced
Several sightseeing days from Srinagar Daily hire One vehicle, same driver, luggage stays put, flat day rate Unused halt days still count as days
Multi-hotel itinerary Daily hire, or a mix Many legs make separate bookings harder to coordinate Compare the sum of all legs and duties

How do you build a cost worksheet?

Quick answer

Daily option: add every quoted daily duty and extras. Transfer option: add every required leg, sightseeing duty and extras. List unknown items separately and treat tax the same way in both.

Illustrative example only. The figures are invented for teaching and are not our rates or any operator’s quote. Trip: 4 days, sedan, two adults. Day 1 airport to Srinagar hotel; Day 2 Gulmarg; Day 3 Pahalgam; Day 4 hotel to airport.

Matched comparison (illustrative figures, same vehicle, same tax treatment)
Line Daily hire Separate transfers
Day 1 airport to hotel Included in daily duty, 3,000 Transfer 1,100
Day 2 Gulmarg Daily duty 3,000 Day trip 2,600
Day 3 Pahalgam Daily duty 3,000 Not yet quoted (?)
Day 4 hotel to airport Departure-day transfer 1,100 Transfer 1,100
Known total 10,100 4,800
Unresolved Local sightseeing vehicles Pahalgam duty; local sightseeing vehicles

The separate-transfer total looks lower, but it has no price yet for Day 3. The two options are equal only if that missing quote comes to 5,300 (10,100 less 4,800). Anything above that makes daily hire cheaper, anything below makes transfers cheaper. Before choosing, get the missing quote.

What else changes the answer?

Quick answer

Availability, long days, return positioning and what each option leaves out.

  • Driver continuity and luggage: daily hire keeps one driver and one car for the whole trip. Separate transfers may involve different vehicles. Ask each provider what is guaranteed.
  • Waiting and extra stops: a drop does not include them. On multi-stop days a full-day booking often costs less than a drop plus waiting.
  • Unused days: a retained vehicle on a rest day is a day you pay for.
  • Long one-way drives: the vehicle may return empty, which affects the price. Compare a one-way quote with a return that has waiting built in.
  • Peak dates: in busy periods vehicles go first, so a retained vehicle may be easier to secure than several separate legs.
  • Local exclusions: Pahalgam local cabs, the Gondola and permits are separate in either model.

What should you decide before asking for quotes?

Quick answer

List every day and every leg first, then ask for both structures for the same plan.

  • Write each day: start, stops, end, hotel.
  • Mark days you only need a drop.
  • Ask each model to quote the same vehicle and treat tax the same way.
  • List what is unpriced in each, and ask for it.
  • Choose after comparing known totals plus the unknowns.

Frequently asked questions

Is daily hire cheaper than transfers?

Not always. It depends on how many days and legs you need, and what is unpriced in each option.

Do I pay for a day I do not drive?

With us a halt day is billed at the same flat daily rate, with no separate night-halt charge.

Is there an hours limit on a day?

We do not apply an hourly cap. If your plan needs extra distance beyond the quoted route, we tell you the rate before you book.

Does daily hire include local sightseeing in Pahalgam?

No. Pahalgam local cabs, the Gondola and permits are paid separately.

What is a departure-day transfer?

If your last day is only an airport or station drop, a flat transfer charge applies instead of a full tour day.
