The Service

About One-Way & Return Taxi

Not every trip needs a car for the day. One-way drops make sense for Srinagar–Jammu, Katra connections, airport runs and hotel-to-hill-station moves — you pay for your journey, not the vehicle’s day.

Return (round-trip) transfers are also available with waiting time built into the quote. For multi-stop days, a full-day rental usually works out better — tell us your plan and we’ll suggest the cheaper option honestly.

💡 Honest Advice

Agar din mein 3+ points cover karne hain, day rental one-way se sasta padta hai. Route bhejo — hum khud bata denge kaunsa option cheaper hai.

When is a one-way drop cheaper than a full-day booking?

Quick answer

When you genuinely just need to get from A to B and are not stopping. The moment you want two or three stops along the way, a full-day booking at the per-day rate almost always costs less than a drop plus waiting.

The reason is the empty return. On a one-way drop the driver goes back alone, so the fare has to carry both legs even though you only travel one. On a day booking you are paying for the vehicle’s day and the return is part of it — which is why a Srinagar to Gulmarg day trip is quoted as a day rather than as two drops.

Rough test: if the journey has a single destination and you are staying there, ask for a drop. If it has stops, photographs, lunch or a return the same evening, ask for the day. We will tell you which is cheaper for your specific route rather than quoting whichever you happened to ask for.

Why is a return often cheaper per day than two one-ways?

Quick answer

Because the vehicle is never running empty. Two separate one-way drops make the driver do two dead legs; a return with waiting built in makes him do none. On the longer routes that difference is substantial.

It shows up most on the Jammu and Katra runs. A one-way drop to Katra and a separate one-way back a few days later is two full journeys of empty running priced into your fares. A return booking with waiting days in between is billed at the flat daily rate for the days the vehicle is with you — including the waiting days, which cost the same as driving days.

That flat-rate structure is the thing to understand before comparing quotes: there is no separate night-halt charge, so a driver waiting two days in Katra adds two ordinary days to the bill and nothing else.

On a one-way drop the vehicle returns empty — which is why a return with waiting is usually the cheaper structure.

Which routes work well as one-way drops?

Quick answer

Point-to-point moves where you are not coming back: airport to hotel, Srinagar to Jammu, Srinagar to Katra, and hotel-to-hill-station moves where you are changing base rather than day-tripping.

Changing base is the underrated case. If you are moving from a Srinagar hotel to a Pahalgam hotel for two nights, that is a drop, not a day — and the sightseeing at the far end is handled by whatever you book there. Travellers often pay for a full day when all they needed was the transfer.

The reverse mistake is more expensive: booking a one-way drop to Gulmarg and then discovering you want the vehicle for the afternoon and the ride back. Say at the start what the day looks like.

Yaad rakho

A drop fare buys the journey, not the day. It does not include waiting at the destination, detours for sightseeing, or the return leg. Ask for those up front and they get quoted properly instead of becoming an argument at the roadside.

Tolls, parking and fuel are included either way. Union cabs, the Gondola and entry tickets never are.

What does a drop not cover?

Quick answer

Waiting time, en-route sightseeing and the return. It also does not change any of the local access rules — a drop to Pahalgam still ends at the taxi stand, with Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari on union cabs from there.

Those rules apply identically whether you booked a drop, a day or a week, and they are set out in full in the complete guide to booking a taxi in Kashmir. Per-day fares for every class are on our Kashmir taxi rates page, and if it turns out you want the vehicle for the whole trip after all, that is the chauffeur-driven rental arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

Is a one-way drop cheaper than booking the car for the day?

Only if you are not stopping anywhere. A drop carries the cost of the driver’s empty return, so as soon as you want stops or a return leg, the day rate is usually lower. Send the route and we will say which is cheaper.

Can the driver wait for me at the destination?

Yes, but that is a return booking rather than a drop. Waiting days are billed at the same flat daily rate as driving days — there is no separate night-halt or waiting surcharge.

Do you do airport drops as one-way fares?

Yes, both directions. Share the flight number for a pickup so the driver tracks the actual arrival, and allow two and a half hours before a departure because of the security checks outside the terminal.

Can I stop for photographs on a one-way drop?

A short stop is usually fine; a sightseeing detour is not what a drop fare covers. If you want the saffron fields or Awantipora on the way to Pahalgam, say so and we will quote it as a day.

Are one-way fares fixed before travel?

Yes. The fare is quoted and agreed before you travel and includes fuel, driver, tolls and parking. There is no meter.

Is a one-way drop available to Jammu and Katra?

Yes, and they are among the commonest. Bear in mind it is a long run — roughly 260 km and eight to ten hours to Katra — so an Innova at minimum is worth it for the seating.
