It is possible, but how comfortable it is depends on what “five days” means. Five calendar days with an afternoon arrival and a morning departure give you about three and a half full sightseeing days, not five. Fitting all four destinations then means long drives on most days. Add a day or drop one destination if you want slack.
Our own 5-day itinerary by taxi sells this plan as a package. This article is the feasibility check: how the days really add up, and what each plan gives up. The wider booking process is in the complete guide to booking a taxi in Kashmir.
How many usable days do you really have?
Count the hours you are free, not the dates on the calendar. An arrival day and a departure day each lose most of their daylight to the airport.
Two things shrink the first and last days. First, landing time, plus bag collection and the drive into town. Second, the airport itself: check-in and bag drop typically close before departure and the cutoff differs by airline, so ask your airline how early to report. Srinagar airport operating hours have also changed this year. One report dated 10 July 2026 said operations would run from 0800 to 1700 hours daily, with night closures for maintenance until October 2026 and no full closure in 2026 (Construction World). Hours can change, so check current notices with your airline before fixing hotel nights.
What does each day actually cost in hours?
Gulmarg is about 3 to 4 hours of driving in a day, Pahalgam about 5 and Sonamarg about 6, before any sightseeing. Do not count transit as free sightseeing time.
| Day | Start and end | Driving (our estimate) | Sightseeing (illustrative) | Main uncertainty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Airport to Srinagar hotel | under 1 hour | Gardens or lake, if time allows | Landing time, bags |
| 2 | Srinagar to Gulmarg and back | 3–4 hours (50 km each way) | 3–4 hours with the Gondola | Snow, Gondola slot |
| 3 | Srinagar to Pahalgam and back | about 5 hours (about 90 km each way) | 3–4 hours, local cabs for the valleys | Valley access, local cab |
| 4 | Srinagar to Sonamarg and back | about 6 hours (80 km each way) | 2–3 hours | Road condition, winter closure |
| 5 | Hotel to airport | under 1 hour | None, once you add airport time | Flight time, reporting |
Day 4 shows the pressure: six hours of driving plus two to three hours at the destination fills the day. The plan works on paper because each trip returns to Srinagar each night. That saves hotel changes but repeats the drives.
What are the alternatives?
A faster plan keeps all four. A relaxed plan drops one. An extra day adds slack. Each gives up something.
| Plan | What you keep | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Faster: all four in five days | Every headline destination | Slack for a closure, rest, a long evening in Srinagar |
| Relaxed: drop Sonamarg (or Gulmarg) | Shorter days, a spare half day | One destination |
| Extra day: six days | All four, with a buffer | One more night and day of vehicle cost |
An overnight in Pahalgam instead of returning to Srinagar can cut a day’s driving, but it adds a hotel change and a different arrival time at the next stop. Compare the full cost of each option before choosing, including the separately paid local cabs in Pahalgam and the Gondola ticket.
What changes in winter, or with children and seniors?
Winter shortens daylight and makes roads less predictable. Slower travellers need fewer destinations per day.
In winter, Gulmarg and Sonamarg depend on snow and road status, and Chandanwari may close. Treat them as flexible days. With children or elderly parents, one big trip a day is a practical ceiling, and a spare day is worth more than an extra stop. Physically possible does not mean comfortable, and the right pace depends on your group.
What if one day becomes unavailable?
Swap the order the evening before, or use a spare day. If there is no slack, you lose a destination.
Your driver will usually know road conditions before you do. If a government closure or heavy snowfall stops a day, our trip changes policy lets you reschedule free or take a full advance refund. The best fallback is a spare day, which is why we suggest six days when all four matter.

Frequently asked questions
Is five days enough for Kashmir?
It is enough for the four headline destinations on a fast plan. It is not much for a relaxed one, because arrival and departure take most of two days.
Which destination should I drop?
Usually the one with the longest drive or the most weather risk for your dates. Sonamarg is the longest day trip, and in winter it is weather dependent.
Can I do Gulmarg and Pahalgam on the same day?
Not sensibly. They are in different directions from Srinagar, and each needs its own day.
How early should I reach the airport on departure day?
Ask your airline. Check-in closing times differ, and the airport’s operating hours have changed this year.
Should I change hotels or return to Srinagar each night?
Returning saves packing but repeats the drive. An overnight in Pahalgam trades a hotel change for less driving. Compare both for your dates.
