A Srinagar to Pahalgam booking takes you to Pahalgam town. Beyond the town, the inner valleys (Aru, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari) are reached in cabs registered with Pahalgam’s local taxi stands, which we call the local union cabs. Budget and plan that leg separately, and check on the day which points are open.

Booking, route details and our current transfer fares are on the Srinagar to Pahalgam taxi page and the airport to Pahalgam page. The wider booking process is in our complete guide to booking a taxi in Kashmir.

What is the difference between a transfer and local sightseeing?

Quick answer

A transfer moves you between places, such as airport to hotel. Local sightseeing is a separate set of trips inside the Pahalgam area, and for the inner valleys it is done in a local cab, not in the car you booked from Srinagar.

Plan these legs separately:

  • Arrival transfer: Srinagar or the airport to Pahalgam.
  • Hotel transfer: to your hotel or the taxi stand, depending on where it is.
  • Local sightseeing: Aru, Betaab Valley, Chandanwari, by local cab.
  • Return transfer: Pahalgam back to Srinagar or onward.
  • Overnight arrangement: where the driver and vehicle wait. On a stay, agree in advance where the vehicle will be kept.

Why can’t the booked car go to Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari?

Quick answer

Because taxis may operate only on routes for which they hold a permit. Pahalgam’s registered taxi stands hold the local routes, and in 2024 the J&K High Court directed that authorities not allow an operator to ply a route it has no valid permit for.

In Tourist Taxi Stand No. 1 Pahalgam v. Union Territory of J&K, reported by Greater Kashmir (15 June 2024), the High Court noted that the Pahalgam Development Authority had told it that only vehicles registered with the taxi stands may ply from Pahalgam to Aru or Chandanwari. The court directed that authorities not permit an operator to run a route for which it holds no valid permit, within the Authority’s jurisdiction. This is a news report of the order.

Rules and administrative decisions can change, so we describe this as the current arrangement, not a universal law, and the position for your dates should be confirmed on the day.

What is the arrangement at each valley?

Quick answer

All three are reached by local cab from the Pahalgam taxi stand. Access can change with snow, weather and administrative closures, so confirm which points are open on your date.

Access arrangement by destination. Cost category is “paid separately” in every row; no fares are published here.
Destination Access arrangement Who confirms it Seasonal caveat
Betaab Valley Local cab from the Pahalgam taxi stand (our pages give about 8 km, roughly 30 minutes) The taxi stand counter, on the day Verify it is open for your date
Aru Valley Local cab (about 12 km, roughly 45 minutes, per our page) The taxi stand counter Snow and weather can affect access
Chandanwari Local cab (about 16 km, per our page) The taxi stand counter Often the first to close after heavy snow. A travel blog reported a 2026 closure; no official notice found. Check before planning

Which costs should be kept separate?

Quick answer

The local cab is not in our quote. Tickets, activities and meals are also separate, and a taxi booking does not guarantee access to a place.

Under our fare inclusions, Pahalgam local union cabs are paid separately. The local fare is set at the taxi stand and paid there. We do not publish a figure because we found no official current rate list, and secondary sources disagree. Our own driver’s waiting at the stand is part of your booked day Our driver parks and waits at the stand at no extra charge.. Parking and tolls on the booked route are covered by the quoted rate.

What does a one-night visit look like?

Quick answer

Three bookings are involved: the Srinagar to Pahalgam transfer, the local cab for the valleys, and the return transfer. Agree the first and last with us in advance; the middle is arranged at the stand.

Illustrative example only. Not a customer booking and not a recommended itinerary. Day 1: transfer from Srinagar to your Pahalgam hotel, arriving in the afternoon, with the afternoon free. Day 2: hire a local cab at the stand for the valleys you want, return to the hotel, then take the return transfer to Srinagar.

  1. Agree in advance: arrival transfer, return transfer, pickup time, where our car waits.
  2. Arrange on the day: the local cab, its price and which valleys.
  3. Keep outside the transport budget: tickets, ponies, meals.

How does this affect children, seniors and luggage?

Quick answer

Plan fewer stops, more time and a smaller bag for the local cab. We cannot promise accessibility in a local vehicle.

Leave heavy luggage at the hotel before the valley trip. If anyone has trouble with steps or rough roads, ask the taxi stand about the vehicle before you pay. Time the local cab so the same-day return is not rushed.
